CitationRateBot

CitationRateBot/1.0 (+https://suite.citationrate.com/bot)

https://suite.citationrate.com/.well-known/http-message-signatures-directory

Come gestirlo

User-agent: CitationRateBot Disallow: /

CitationRateBot

The program CitationRate uses to read website pages.

Who we are

CitationRateBot is the program CitationRate uses to read website pages and measure how understandable and citable they are for artificial intelligence engines.

When it visits a site

Only when a CitationRate user requests the analysis of a page. It does not browse the web on its own and does not collect sites in bulk. If the user turns on an automatic check, the bot only re-reads that site's robots.txt, at the chosen interval.

What it reads

The requested public page, the robots.txt file, the structured data and at most three pages of the same site linked from it (contact, about and legal notes). Never restricted areas or pages behind a login. The content is not used to train artificial intelligence models.

How to recognise it

It always identifies itself with this user agent:

CitationRateBot/1.0 (+https://suite.citationrate.com/bot)

Every request is signed with Web Bot Auth (HTTP Message Signatures, RFC 9421, Ed25519 key). The Signature-Agent, Signature-Input and Signature headers cover the requested host and expire after 60 seconds. The public key is published here:

https://suite.citationrate.com/.well-known/http-message-signatures-directory

Key identifier (keyid): LUywo8F5-lvYAuARWnuU4kolTFyovesoY1Jnz25bfW0

The bot runs on servers without fixed IP addresses: verify it by its signature, not by its address. A request using our name without a valid signature is not ours.

Respect for your site

One page at a time. It follows the robots.txt rules addressed to CitationRateBot, or the ones for everyone (User-agent: *) when there are none for us, including Crawl-delay. If robots.txt does not respond or returns a server error, it reads no pages. If a site blocks it, the analysis reports it.

To check what remains of the page without JavaScript, it may open it once with a headless browser (Chromium), still named CitationRateBot and signed the same way. The browser loads that page's scripts and stylesheets, not its images, fonts or videos.

How to manage it

To opt out of the analysis, add this rule to your robots.txt:

User-agent: CitationRateBot Disallow: /
